How this tournament is going to work. Empty
PostSubject: How this tournament is going to work.   How this tournament is going to work. I_icon_minitimeMon Mar 16, 2009 12:23 pm

Anyways, to the brunt of this topic.

Every week, 2 hands will be played (if you can play more, you are welcome to ask me so). Just meet up with each other sometime.

I will send everyone a hand, when you meet, sort the cards into suits. Now one person at a time, take their hand from their appropriate suits. The hand I will send you will look like this:

North
S: A Q 8 6 4
H: K Q J
D: 10 3 2
C: 9 8

So you get the AQ864 of Spades, KQJ of hearts, 10 3 2 of Diamonds, and 9 8 of Clubs.
I can't do this in any better way. Please DO NOT try to memorize other people's hands, it's just not nice.

Afterward, I need the result which I will use for score calculation. Basically, I need:
The Declarer, The Contract, Doubled?, Result

So, a 5 Clubs doubled and redoubled contract is, but we also need the declarer. So say it is north.
5 c N xx
(x for doubled once, xx for redoubled).
but, say they made only 9 tricks out of 11 they need, they are called down 2. So we put -2
so post on the form the result as 5cNxx -2 and the partnerships involved.

So the post would look like:
NS: Mr. McMaster Mr. Slemon
EW: Mrs. Brown Mr. Hussey

Result: 5c Nxx-2

Score Calculation:
This is tricky. Basically, it is number declared x 20 for minor suit (clubs and diamonds) contracts, x30 for major suit contracts (hearts and spades), and 40+ (declared -1)x30 for nt contracts. Now, we take the score and put them into a table.

If the contract is worth over 100 points (after double/ redoubles) then 300 points are awarded for game. Also, if you fail in your contract, the defending side gets 50 points for every undertrick. So i.e. if you fail in a 3NT contract that was doubled, by 1. Your opponents get 100+ points, which means they get game.

EDIT : GAME DOES APPLY TO DEFEATING CONTRACTS. NOR DOES THE SUIT. WHICH MEANS DATA ON THE BOTTOM TABLE IS WRONG. BUT THE IMP CALCULATION IS STILL CORRECT.

(This means your opponents get 100+300 = 400 points for defeating your contract)

Multiply by 2 for x, and multiply score by 4 for xx.

We find the difference between your team and the other teams. The results were (for NS)
5c xx -2 (-1600) , 5c x = (800 points), 3c +2 (100 points), 4c +1 x (920 points)
X 1 2 3 4
1 X -2400 -1700 -2520
2 2400 X 700 -120
3 1700 -700 X -820
4 2520 120 820 X

Now we change those numbers into match points,
0-10 game points = 0 match points
20 - 40 game poitns = 1 match point
50 - 80 = 2 mp
90 - 120 = 3mp
130 - 160 = 4mp
160 - 210 = 5mp
220 - 260 = 6mp
270 - 310 = 7mp
320 - 360 = 8mp
370 - 420 = 9mp
430 - 490 = 10 mp
500 - 590 = 11 mp
600 - 740 = 12 mp
... (not going through everything)

X 1 2 3 4 Tot
1 X -20 -17 -21 -58
2 20 X 12 -3 29
3 17 -12 X -13 -8
4 21 3 13 X 37

Now, we average everything
Team 1 has -58/ 3 = -19.3 MPs
Team 2 has 29/ 3 = 9.7 MPs
Team 3 has -8/ 3 = -2.7 MPs
Team 4 has 37/3 = 12.7 MPs

So we have a chart like so:
Team 1 NS - -19.3
Team 1 EW - 19.3
Team 2 NS - 9.7
Team 2 EW - -9.7
Team 3 NS - -2.7
Team 3 EW - 2.7
Team 4 NS - 12.7
Team 4 EW - -12.7

These values are added to everyone's total scores. Then after all the hands are played, we total the score from each hand and we will find the eventual winner.
